The quintessential Christmas movie was brought to life in Llangollen for Christmas 2023 – here’s how it went down!
In December 2023 we partnered up with the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod to present an unforgettable festive family fundraiser to promote peace and joy for all at Christmas. The concert culminated with 'The Snowman' film, whose magical soundtrack was brought to life by NEW Sinfonia and conductor Robert Guy.
There were standing ovations and plenty of festive cheer on show at Llangollen Pavilion Hall where our sold-out concerts were held.
The Snowman concert featured a selection of popular seasonal songs and carols sung by NEW Voices, our inspirational community vocal ensemble, who were joined by refugees from Ukraine. Polina Horelova, originally from Mariupol in Ukraine, led the choir and musicians through the Ukrainian carol ‘Shchedryk’, more commonly known as Carol of the Bells. The piece also featured a solo from renowned Ukrainian soprano Khrystyna Makar.

There were many other festive activities our Snowman Concert to interact with including storytelling sessions with local spoken word artist Fiona Collins and festive photo opps with our very own Snowman and Santa Claus himself (aka former Llangollen Mayor Austin Chem!).
Through our partnership with UareUK we were able to invite families from Llangollen’s food bank group and the refugee Hub to have breakfast with Santa before getting exclusive access to see The Snowman film and NEW Sinfonia at our dress rehearsal.
As well as being a wonderful festive treat, the concert raised money to support the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod and the UareUK Hub who support refugees seeking sanctuary in North Wales.
