Who are we?

We are a creative vocal ensemble, bringing people together and expanding the NEW Sinfonia family to create new experiences for members and audiences. Our singers, coming from all over North Wales, are from all different walks of life. The vocal ensemble is a community of people with varied professions, backgrounds, and levels of music experience (from well-versed choristers to beginners). What unites our singers is their flare for music and passion for singing!

Where is it?

Location is no barrier. We currently rehearse in person at Tŷ Pawb, the community arts hub at the heart of Wrexham, on Saturday mornings at 10.30 for 1.5 hours. You can also join us virtually via Zoom. Rehearsals for future projects will take place in different venues across North Wales always with the option to join virtually.

Our projects

Upcoming:

We are incredibly excited to announce that NEW Voices will be performing as part of the North Wales International Music Festival’s launch concert in St Asaph Cathedral this summer! The concert will celebrate 50 years since the festivals establishment, 10 years of St Asaph’s city status, and 70 years of the Queen’s reign.

Previously:

Hiraeth | Longing for Home

In April NEW Voices teamed up with NEW Sinfonia to celebrate the diverse and multicultural heart of Wrexham in support of the town’s bid to be UK Capital of Culture. Ranging from well-known favourites such as ‘Lisa Lan’ and Karl Jenkins’s ‘Adiemus’, to the traditional Zimbabwean ‘Famba naye’ and the native American ‘Shoshone love song’, our repertoire came from across the world and was sung in Spanish, Swahili, English, Ukrainian, and of course, Welsh. We also teamed up with critically acclaimed contemporary composer Claire Victoria Roberts to bring to life a brand new commission which presented a musically modern take on an Argentinian folk tune.

Angels Sign and Sing

Our first project came to fruition in November 2021, where NEW Voices and NEW Sinfonia premiered a new work composed by our very own Jon Guy. The work was a setting of a poem by Evrah Rose which was inspired by our choir members experiences of the pandemic. The concert took place in St Giles where angels hung from the roof to represent everyone in Wales who lost their lives to Covid. NEW Voices, in collaboration with Dee-Sign choir performed ‘The Nightingale’ by Jon Guy, ‘Ar Hyd y Nos’, and the incredibly poignant ‘Anfonaf Angel’ by Robat Arwyn.

How much does it cost?

Pay what you can! You can either make a small monthly donation, or a one-off annual donation, and via our NEW Patron Scheme, you can see exactly how your contributions will be used.

We have the funds to cover the commission part for our first project. Your support will help cover our team of brilliant professional freelance musicians and administration costs to help us unlock and shape the creation of this exciting NEW Voices group.
