About the Event

Bring in the new year in style with NEW Sinfonia at our annual New Year Gala Concert!

We’re bringing the sound of the Viennese concert hall to Wrexham city centre once again, with orchestral favourites such as Blue Danube, Auld Lang Syne, an array of classic waltzes and marches, and Ukrainian art song sung by soprano Khrystyna Makar.  Dance and sing your way into 2024 with family and friends accompanied by of our virtuosic symphony orchestra and charismatic conductor Robert Guy.

This year we are delighted to be sharing the stage with renowned Ukrainian soprano Khrystyna Makar. Khrystyna was born in Lviv and studied voice at Lviv National Music Academy before embarking on a career which has taken her to the many prestigious concert halls and festivals of Europe, including Vienna, Berlin, Antwerp, Dresden, Amsterdam, Geneva, Hamburg, and Frankfurt. Over the course of her career, she has performed both operatic and oratorio repertoire including; the role of Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Magic Flute, Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata, Mimi in Puccini’s La Boheme, Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St Matthew and St John Passions, Rossini’s Missa Solemnis, Bethoven’s 9th Symphony, and Verdi’s Requiem. She is a 21st-century-music enthusiast and has performed numerous world premieres such as Bazhansky’s Dovbush and The White Gypsy, Dimas Artur da Silva’s Amen, and Scott Brickmann’s Kaddish.

Khrystyna arrived in the U.K. with her two young sons in July 2022. Since then, she has reached out to friends and supporters who helped her to continue performing, mostly in Wales. In this short time, she has performed at the Welsh National Eisteddfod, presented a big solo concert and a recital of Ukrainian art songs in Rhosygilwen in Pembrokeshire, performed J.S Bach’s Christmas oratorio at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre and, most notably, appeared as a guest performer at the St. David’s Day Celebrations at the Welsh Senedd.

We are delighted that Khrystyna will be making her Wrexham debut with NEW Sinfonia.
